Vincent sits about eight kilometres south-west of the Townsville CBD across 1.3 square kilometres, bordered by Garbutt, Heatley, Cranbrook, Currajong, Gulliver and Aitkenvale on the western side of the city.

The suburb was named on the first day of 1967 after Major William Slade Vincent of the volunteer militia, who commanded the 3rd Queensland Regiment. Vincent State School opened the following January.

It draws buyers who want a full block and a solid house at a price that still leaves room to improve it, and who value being a short drive from Aitkenvale, Castletown and the city.
